Our Most Popular CCTV Cameras: The Top 3
In this blog I’ll give you the low down on our most popular cameras and the technical details about them that I find interesting and noteworthy. Full datasheets for them are provided if you would like further technical specifications.
When you purchase a Securico CCTV system our ordering team will match the best camera for your needs and your budget. As well as the environment it will be used in and the DVR/NVR (Recorder) it will be partnered up with.
Image Resolution
The minimum resolution we offer in our CCTV cameras is 1080P High Definition (HD).
Most people are now familiar with HD. Most of our TVs and phones and monitors are HD at the very least.
If you’re unsure about the quality of HD and you have an HD TV, have a flick between BBC One and BBC One HD. The difference is noticeable; sharp images and vivid colours.
4K is four times the resolution of HD. This is going to give you far more detail than you might expect. Particularly when we’re talking about the images and video your CCTV cameras are going to capture. Massive difference in digital zoom quality. Huge difference in seeing detail like people’s faces and number plates for example.
Frame Rates
The frame rate goes hand in hand with the resolution. At the very highest resolution there will be a small compromise in frame rate. 12 – 15 frames per second (FPS) however is usually perfect for CCTV purposes. You can sometimes go higher and find a happy medium in image resolution and frame rate, should you need it.
IP Ratings
The IP in ‘IP ratings’ stands for Ingress Protection.
Essentially it is a standardised rating system for the protection that an enclosure (like the housing of a CCTV camera) gives its contents. The IP rating system designed to give consumers an appreciation for how well the enclosure keeps foreign bodies out i.e. dust, or water.
An IP rating could look like this: IP67
The first digit in an IP rating is intrusion protection. Here’s the breakdown from 1 to 7:
1 – 3 From not much protection at all, to keeping out fingers and small objects.
4. Keeps out from objects/tools with a diameter of 2.5 mm or more.
5. Protection from solid bodies 1mm or larger (e.g. fine tools).
6. Keeps out dust that could harm the hardware.
7. Totally dust tight.
The second digit in an IP rating is moisture protection:
1 – 3. Is from zero protection, to keeping out condensation, to water droplets deflected up to 15° from vertical.
4 – 5. Protection against water spray; various angles.
6. Protection from low pressure water jets (all directions)
7. Protection from strong water jets / waves.
8. Protected against short-term immersion.
9. Protected against extended immersion and water pressure.
So in IP67 the 6: intrusion protection gives you “Keeps out dust that could harm the hardware”.
And the 7: moisture protection gives you: “Protection from strong water jets / waves”
