What are ColorVu Cameras?

ColorVu uses the latest technology to produce colour images at night, as opposed to the less detailed, black and white nighttime images from conventional infrared CCTV cameras.
How does it work?
Instead of using infrared, ColorVu cameras capture more available light with a wider aperture, smart digital processing and anti-reflective coating on the lens.
The large F1.0 aperture can capture up to 4 times as much light compared to a conventional CCTV camera.
As a comparison, at night our pupils widen to capture more light; and the ColorVu aperture is similar to this, in that it is wider to allow more light.
In very low light situations the camera has a built-in light to brighten the area of interest and therefore capture colour images even in the darkest of scenes.
The Camera’s Light – What can I expect?
If the scene you are viewing has complementary lighting from street lamps, for example, it’s possible that your camera’s light may not come on.
Whether or not the ColorVu’s light comes on is determined by the camera software, i.e. if it believes there is enough light then the camera will not switch on its own light. This does not mean there is a fault.
Likewise in a darker scene where there is no additional lighting, the ColorVu camera will assess the scene and turn on its light.
